Intermediate Class - Winchester, Tuesday 10th November 2009

Please note that these Modern Jive move descriptions are intended to be used as a memory jogger for those who attended the dance class rather than a training aid for learning the moves from scratch. Much more in-depth move descriptions and videos are available in the Dance Yourself Dizzy Members Area.

Move 1 = Right Handed Step Across = Step back right to right. Men, step forward and slightly to your left as you raise your right hand, stepping under your ladies raised right arm and pivoting to your left. Ladies step straight forward. Men as you continue to swap sides and turn to your left to face your lady, keep your right hand raised and take it over the lady's head to turn her in a clockwise direction. When she comes round to face lower your hands and both step back. Step in to return. Both step back.

Move 2 = Catapult Teapot = Beats 1 & 2 as per a normal Catapult. Both lean away from each other as per a normal Catapult but as you do so, men, transfer the ladies right hand from your right to your left behind your back. Men, take a step back to the right as you pull and raise your left hand out to the left, to make the ladies step forwards underneath and start turning to their left to face (Men make sure your elbow points to the ceiling rather than your lady as you do this). Men do not take another step back, instead keep your left hand raised, take a side step diagonally to your left in front of the ladies and underneath her arm and into a Teapot position - lowering the lady's arm so that it is across your shoulders behind your neck, and taking your right hand behind the lady's back and onto her far hip. Both walk round in a clockwise direction for 2 beats. This move now finishes in exactly the same way as a normal Teapot - men push and let go with your right hand, as you turn to your left pulling down with your left elbow to bring the ladies round to face. Return. Step back changing hands so that you finish right to right, ready for the next move.

Move 3 = Cleaver Unwind = Video Available.

Move 4 = Basket Salsa = Beats 1, 2, 3 & 4 as per a normal Basket. Men, step directly behind your lady placing your left hand (with the ladies right) onto the lady's left shoulder. Men raise your left hand over the lady's head as you step into her right hand side, your right hand remains at waist level. Men, step to your left, in front of the ladies, as you lower your left hand to waist level, behind your back, and raise your right hand in front of you. Men, pivot a quarter turn to your right and take the right hand out to the right above the lady's head. This should make the ladies pivot a quarter turn to her left. Men, take a step to your right as you lower your right hand and raise your left, both passing back to back. Men, let go with your right hand, from behind your back, as you raise the left hand over the ladies head drawing an anti clockwise circle to return her anti clockwise. Both step back to face changing hands so you finish right to right ready to go back to the beginning.

Move 4 = First Move Twist = Beats 1, 2 & 3 as per a normal First Move. Men as you bring the ladies back round in front of you - throw your lady's right hand over your left shoulder, as you step in so that if you look down your feet are alternate (man's left, lady's right, man's right, lady's left). Men pull back with your right hand to twist your lady out to the side and offer your left hand out in front of you - ladies take hold with your right hand. Men take a big step back onto the side that you started on as you pull and raise your left hand (being careful with your elbow!) to return the ladies - ladies step forward changing sides as you turn to your left. Face your partner.

Move 2 = Wurlitzer Left Handed Pushspin = Beats 1, 2 & 3 as per a normal Wurlitzer. Men keep hold with your right hand as you raise it over the lady's head to turn her in an anti-clockwise direction. When the ladies come round to face, men take your right hand out to the right at waist level, at the same time offer your left hand as a flat palm by your chest. Men with your right hand throw the lady's left hand onto your flattened left palm, so that you are palm to palm - left to left. As your lady comes round to face - collect her in a First Move position. Men twist your lady out to the side. Men pull with your left hand to start making your lady walk round in front of you. Keep leading your lady round you men, so she is now by your left side. Men drop your left elbow to create an arch formed by yours and your lady's forearms, and take this arch over your head like a comb as you lead your lady round behind you, and place your left hand on your left shoulder. Men let go with your left hand, and step forwards offering your right hand out behind you - lady's slide and catch. Men take a big step back to the left as you pull and raise your right hand (being careful with your elbow!) to turn the ladies to their right underneath as you both swap sides. Face. Return. Step back.
